Some Refer.sg readers may have noticed that we were less active updating our blog, the reason being we have been extremely tied-up the past couple of weeks as we just welcomed our newest addition to our family! As the saying goes, it takes an entire village to raise a child – all hands were on deck!
Chinese Name Selection for Newborn
Back in 2020, we had asked our circle of friends for recommendations for a Chinese name selection Shifu for our firstborn. We were recommended to reach out to Cai Shifu (蔡师父). As we had a good experience with his service previously, naturally we would think of Cai Shifu when it comes to choosing our newborn’s Chinese name.
The process was simple, over the phone we provided Cai Shifu details of our newborn’s:
- Date of birth
- Time of birth
- Parent’s Chinese names
- Any siblings
Meeting the Shifu
We agreed on a mutual date and time and arrived promptly at Cai Shifu’s office at Race Course Road. Similar to our previous experience in 2020, the consultation is approximately 15 minutes. Cai Shifu had already prepared the suggested names combinations and he took time to explain how he arrived at each of the name characters he have listed. We felt he was well prepared and that the research was well done.
What We Like About The Service
What we like about his service is because Cai shifu took the time to explain how each of the characters was selected and he gave his personal opinion on which combinations are the best (most “Fortunate” / Wang). Shifu even goes the extra mile to offer a re-selection of names if we are not satisfied with the shortlisted names. Despite it being the Chinese New Year period with several appointments lined-up, we felt the process was not rushed. Most importantly, we felt his service is warm and we can feel that he is passionate about his craft and service.
We thought to pen down our journey making with the new parents with this new “BABYHOOD GUIDE”, hopefully our readers will find this series of information useful.
Note: Refer.sg does not get any referral frees for this post, we are putting up this post because we enjoyed the service and we do hope such traditional services will continue to stay relevant. We are aware there are online search which can automatically generate Chinese names with the same inputs for a lower cost or even free.
